A legacy of honour: Prestigious guests who have graced Republic Day celebrations

Over the years, India’s Republic Day celebrations have been graced by distinguished chief guests from around the world.

1960: President Kliment Voroshilov of the USSR attended India’s Republic Day celebrations. 

1961: Queen Elizabeth II was the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations.

1971: President Julius Nyerere of Tanzania attended Republic Day celebrations.

1984: King Jigme Singye Wangchuck of Bhutan graced India’s Republic Day as the chief guest.

2006: King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia was the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations.

2014: Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe graced India’s Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest.

2015: President Barack Obama of the United States was the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations.

2024: President Emmanuel Macron of France attended India’s Republic Day celebrations.

2025: Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto was the esteemed chief guest for today's grand occasion.
