Meet Indian author Banu Mushtaq, winner of the International Booker Prize

Banu Mushtaq is an Indian writer who tells stories about women, caste, and power.

She won the International Booker Prize for her book "Heart Lamp".

Her translator, Deepa Bhasthi, also shared the prize with her.

Banu Mushtaq is the first Kannada author to win the Booker Prize.

She is 77 years old and lives in Karnataka.

Her book is the second Indian work to win after "Tomb of Sand".

Banu is known for supporting women’s rights and fighting discrimination.

Her first story was published when she was 26 in a Kannada magazine.
