The audience knows him as the comic star, the action star and -- after films like Baby, Gabbar is Back and Holiday – as India’s last hope. With Airlift, however, Akshay Kumar plays an influential businessman who loses everything because of circumstances beyond his control. The man responsible for it all is Saddam Hussein.
The Bollywood star unveiled the first teaser of the film on Wednesday morning and it is both emphatic and edgy. Akshay plays Ranjit Katyal , an Indian businessman who controls a large conglomerate in Kuwait while Nimrat Kaur essays the role of his wife. Set in the backdrop of the Gulf war of 1990, it shows how Akshay’s Ranjit suddenly loses everything and has to depend on the country he left behind, India, for his very survival.
Airlift revolves around the evacuation of Indians trapped in Kuwait during the war. In the build-up to the teaser launch, Akshay Kumar had been tweeting bits of information about the Indian operation.
He wrote on Tuesday night, “India airlifted over 1,70,000 people from Kuwait in the largest human evacuation in history #AirliftTeaserTomorrow.”
Earlier, he had tweeted, “The Gulf War begins #RewindTo1990 Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait. More than 1,70,000 Indians become homeless refugees virtually overnight. As the war escalates, India sends flights to rescue its citizens in Kuwait. India sets a Guinness world record by safely evacuating more than 170000 ppl over 59 days.”

Akshay, who has recently worked in the successful thriller Baby, looks every bit the rich businessman determined to fight all odds and emerge a winner even in the scary scenario of Saddam’s attack on Kuwait.
