Bathinda: A local woman and 10 other people have been booked on the charge of pushing her 14-year-old niece into prostitution.
The local police have registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code, relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the victim’s aunt, Angrej Kaur, and 10 others.
Investigating officer Beant Kaur said the girl had lost her mother seven years ago and since then had been living with her aunt. The police said her father, who was not mentally stable, was presently residing at his ancestral village.
The matter came to light when the girl narrated the happenings to one of her relatives, who later approached the police on March 1.
“In her complaint, the victim alleged that she was repeatedly raped over the past six months, besides being harassed by her aunt,” Beant Kaur said.
As per the FIR, the girl was forced into prostitution and taken to abandoned places at night by the accused.
The investigating officer said the victim’s medical examination had been conducted.
The police have also booked Angrej’s husband Darshan Singh and son Lakhvir Singh in the case. No arrest has been made so far.
