‘Not killing myself because of weight or…,’ teen jumps to death in Bengaluru

In the early hours of Monday, a 17-year-old PUC student allegedly killed himself by jumping from the 23rd floor of an apartment complex in southern Bengaluru.

Anjan R, a native of Kollegal in Chamarajnagar district, reportedly sent a video to his parents before taking the extreme step and left behind a note, in which he reportedly clarified that he did not end his life because he was fat or did not do well in school.

The Konanakunte police have taken up a case of unnatural death and are investigating to determine the exact cause of his death. Anjan was in his second year of commerce at a private college. According to preliminary investigations, he jumped from the 23rd floor of a 32-story apartment in Anjanadri Layout, Kanakapura Main Road, at around 3.05 a.m. on Monday. The on-duty security guards at the apartment building heard a loud crashing noise and rushed to find the boy lying in a pool of his blood. They called the cops.

When police arrived at the scene, they had difficulty identifying the deceased because his face had been completely smashed by the impact of the fall. They did, however, recover a receipt in his pocket, which they claimed was a suicide note. Anjan stated in the note that he was not taking his own life because he was overweight or did not perform well in school. He pleaded with everyone to forgive him. The note also included his name and other information, such as the flat number from which he jumped.

Police later tracked down his cousin and discovered that Anjan had visited him on Sunday. They both ordered food online and watched a cricket test match on television. Both went to bed at midnight. Anjan then went to the balcony, used some tools to cut the mesh, and jumped from there.

During the investigation, police discovered that Anjan had made a video recording with the same message he had written in his death note. Before committing suicide, the teen had sent the video to his parents. Anjan was a good student until his first year of PUC, but he was a bad student in college, and his grades dropped during his second year. "We have no idea what went wrong. We're checking his phone," a senior police officer said.
