Congress accuses BJP of reducing development to photo op in Panchkula
Accusing the BJP dominated municipal corporation (MC), Congress councillors also pointed out that MC does not have its own building and they have to pay rent in lakhs
Former deputy chief minister and member of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Chander Mohan along with Congress councillors accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of ignoring the elected Congress councillors and reducing development in Panchkula to just “political and photo opportunities.”

Mohan, lashing out at the BJP government, said, “The present BJP government has been a complete failure on all fronts. They are ignoring the Congress councillors. Once we are voted to power, we will get the prevailing corruption in municipal corporation investigated by independent agency.”
Accusing the BJP dominated municipal corporation (MC), councillors also pointed out that MC does not have its own building and they have to pay rent in lakhs. The work of MC building has not been completed in last 4 years.
Panchkula MC has total strength of 24 members, including three nominated councillors. The MC is dominated by the BJP with 10 elected councillors and mayor, two are Jannayak Janata Party councillors and seven are Congress councillors and one is independent.
Congress Councillors Akshaydeep Chaudhary and Sandeep Sohi pointed out that the elections to the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor have been pending. “By failing to get these elections done government is proving its failure and killing democracy,” they added.
Another Congress councillor Salim Khan, said, “The government is drum beating about development but in reality, nothing has been done on the ground. Not even one work has been completed. Their claims of making Panchkula clean and stray cattle free mere eyewash are far away from ground reality.”
Meanwhile, councillors Usha Rani and Ram Prasad said, “The colonies, including Indira colony, Rajiv colony, Kharak Mangoli, Gandhi colony have been termed illegal and residents are deprived of basic amenities even when resident have water and electricity connections. Earlier governments had even carried out development works there.”
Responding to the allegations, BJP spokesperson Ranjeeta Mehta, said, “When Chander Mohan was to do development of area he was lost in different ‘fiza’.
“He failed to get even single work done in name of development in Panchkula. People have rejected him and now Chander Mohan is trying to mislead people,” the spokesperson added.
