Civic polls: Counting of votes on May 13, Lucknow DM reviews preparations
Counting parties to reach Ramabai Ambedkar Rally Sthal at 7am, no vehicle would be allowed within 200-metre radius of the venue, say officials
LUCKNOW The counting of votes for the election of Lucknow mayor and corporators of 110 wards of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will take place at the Ramabai Ambedkar Rally Sthal here on May 13, and it may take 22-23 rounds before the results are out by afternoon, said officials.
Mobile phones and electronic devices will be banned at the counting site, and no vehicle would be allowed within 200-metre radius of the venue.
District magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar reviewed preparations at the counting site and directed officials to ensure smooth counting process. “On May 13, counting parties would reach the Ramabai Ambedkar Rally Sthal at 7am. Counting of postal and service ballots will start from 8am. No counting agent would carry mobile phone or any other electronic device to the venue,” he said.
He directed candidates to make those people as agents who don’t have any health issues. Besides, any MLA, MLC, district panchayat president, pradhan or any person provided security guard cannot be made a counting agent.
Votes for the election of mayor would be counted on 110 tables (one table for each ward) while another 110 tables have been placed for the counting of votes for 110 corporators. Apart from this, postal ballots will be counted on six tables. In this way, 226 tables will be installed.
In wards where voters and booths are less, results will be out after 12-13 rounds. But where booths/voters are more, it will take more time, said Bipin Mishra, ADM (administration).
During the counting of votes, there will be a tea break from 9:30am to 10am and lunch break from 1pm to 1:30pm. Candidates can send tea or food to the counting agents.
