Owing to rising crime, Mumbai police ask companies to verify delivery executives

Mumbai: Courier companies in the city involved in delivering food parcels have been warned by the Mumbai police of consequences if delivery executives hired by them are caught violating traffic rules or involved in a crime.

In a meeting conducted by the additional commissioner of west region (Mumbai suburbs), on Saturday, the food, courier and e-commerce delivery companies were asked to set up a code of conduct for their delivery executives after a series of crimes involving them and against e-commerce portals were received by the police from motorists and residents from Bandra to Andheri.

According to the police officers, the meeting was attended by 30 companies including Amazon, McDonald’s, Swiggy, Blue Dart, among others.

Officials told the companies to conduct a police verification of all the delivery executives employed by them and submit all the essential identity proof and company agreement of employment to the police as and when any new employee was hired.

The police officers also instructed the companies to make sure that the two-wheeler riders do not carry excessive weight for delivery or break any traffic rule including creating noise pollution.

The companies were told to provide the delivery executives with uniforms and make sure that they wear the uniforms while they are on duty. The police warned the companies that if they did not follow the instructions then they would be penalised along with the delivery executives.
