Palestinian group Hamas claimed to have "punished" Israel for its Rafah assault. Hamas stated that its fighters have inflicted heavy losses on the IDF in southern Gaza. The IDF, too, has admitted to suffering personnel loss in the fight against Hamas. IDF's Staff Sgt. Rotem Sahar Hadar of the Paratroopers Brigade’s reconnaissance unit was eliminated by the Al Qassam Brigades. The IDF also stated that three Israeli soldiers have sustained serious injuries, while six others have varying degrees of injury.
