Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan Kapoor unveiled the first trailer of his upcoming film, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero where he plays a superhero minus any superpowers (as bestowed by radioactive spiders or gamma rays, for instance). Well, our desi superhero won’t let lack of superpowers come in his way though.

Like the 2010 superhero satire, Kick-Ass, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero also feature a slacker who decides to don tights and fight crime. A scene at the beginning of the trailer in which the three friends talk about superheroes and comic books is very similar to the one in Kick-Ass, in which Aaron Taylor Johnson’s Dave Lizewski wonders why more people don’t become superheroes in real life. There are also similarities in the scenes that depict Bhavesh’s earliest attempts at superheroics - he wears a makeshift mask, confronts wrongdoers, but soon realises that he is out of his depth. And like Kick-Ass, it takes the death of a loved one to push him over the edge.

Directed by Vikramditya Motwane, the film soon delves into meting out vigilante justice. As villain, we have the cliched politician who tells the pubic, “Ye Mumbai ko, Bharat Mata ko maarne aaya hai!” Are you reminded of Emraan Hashmi, Sanjay Dutt-starrer Ungli?

Talking at the trailer launch, Vikramaditya said, “The idea basically started from the frustration of living in our country. We all love India but there are times when you just feel like - though it is not the right thing - you just feel ‘ek thappad mar do’. That’s where the idea of vigilantism came from.”

Earlier in the day, Anil shared a new poster from the film that shows Harshvardhan’s face. “Meet the man behind the mask! #BhaveshJoshiSuperhero will be unveiled soon! Trailer out at 1.30pm! @HarshKapoor_”

The film is based on the concept of vigilante justice. In a field mostly dominated by Hrithik Roshan-starrer Krrish, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero may bring a more desi version for an Indian superhero film. Tiger Shroff tried his hands at the superhero game and his film, A Flying Jatt proved to be quite popular with the audience.

Bhavesh Joshi Superhero will be Harshvardhan’s second film after his debut, Mirzya, which failed to impress the public. The film is slated to release on May 25.
