RIP Reema Lagoo: Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar lead industry reactions on Twitter

Reema Lagoo, veteran TV and film actor known for playing mothers to some of the industry’s biggest stars, died of a cardiac arrest on Thursday. Several industry figures paid tribute on Twitter. Here are some reactions.

Veteran film and TV actor Reema Lagoo has died of a cardiac arrest, ANI has confirmed.

IANS, quoting a family source, reports that the actor died early Thursday. She was 59.

The actor had been admitted to the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai shortly after midnight. She had complained of chest pain.

“We will issue a health report later in the day, after consulting with her family,” the hospital’s executive director Ram Naraian told PTI.

Also speaking to PTI, Lagoo’s son-in-law Vinay Waikul said, “She was complaining of chest pain so we took her to hospital around 1 AM. She passed away due to a heart attack around 3.15 AM. She was perfectly fine and had no health it is really shocking for all of us that she is no more with us.”

The actor was famous for playing moms in both movies and television. Her most popular movies were Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Maine Pyar Kiya and Kal Ho Naa Ho. She also made a name for herself in TV shows like Tu Tu Main Main and Shrimaan Shrimati. She was last seen in Naamkaran.

Over the course of her career, she played the mother’s role opposite some of the biggest stars in the industry like Salman Khan (Maine Pyar Kiya), Akshay Kumar (Jai Kishan), Sridevi (Gumrah), Madhuri Dixit (Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!) and Shah Rukh Khan (Kal Ho Naa Ho).
