“I agree that the law of the land is the most important thing. But Palang Tod is a traditional, old song. And lyrics from old songs can be taken,” Anand says. The authorities have reportedly found the lyrics of the song offensive and, according to the Board’s directive, the song cannot be shown on national TV due to the lines: Khaike palang tod paan, tune le li meri jaan, haari haari main to haari, Chal hat beimaan.

“In the 1966 film Teesri Kasam too, there was an old folk song, chalat musafir moh liyo, which became very popular. If they could have such songs in the ‘60s, what’s the harm now? The makers of the film must fight for the song,”Anand says.

About a reported rift between him and singer Sonu Nigam, both of who have made music for the film, he says, “Sonu has composed the title track for the film. All I told him was that he will now realise the time and energy spent in making a song. But the media mis-interpreted it.”
