“It appears to be an accidental death. We have got the autopsy conducted and there will be more clarity once we have the report. The spot where the death occurred has been photographed and inspected by a police team,” said Atul Kumar Thakur, deputy commissioner of police (north-east). The incident occurred around 4 pm.

“The boy was playing with his older brother on their terrace where some clothes were put up to dry. He had climbed up a bucket and was playing with a dupatta hanging from a rope,” said an investigator.

The sibling went downstairs for a while but when he returned, he found his brother lying motionless on the floor. He alerted his mother after which the boy was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
