"We have put a freeze on issuance of fancy numbers till the Transport Department comes out with a new policy for it," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters after a meeting of the state cabinet.

It is alleged many Delhi Congress leaders had recommended VIP registration numbers for the cars recovered from the premises of Malhotra who was arrested by CBI on Monday in connection with a multi-crore land scam.

Malhotra said Congress MLAs Kunwar Karan Singh and Surendra Pal Bittoo had recommended fancy numbers for his luxury cars.

The Delhi Chief Secretary has been asked to direct the Transport Commissioner to formulate a comprehensive policy on how the VIP registration numbers should be issued.
