Klopp’s side looked set for a creditable draw before Adrian Lopez delighted the home fans with a stoppage time sucker punch to give Villarreal a slender advantage ahead of the second leg.

Commenting on how the first leg unfolded, Klopp said that he was pleased with the overall performance but cited the lack of experience as reason for the defensive lapse towards the end, the Guardian reported.

The German added that the Europa League hopes were not over, insisting that Liverpool will be ready for the second leg with a different game.

Both the sides will face each other again on Thursday and the winners will meet either Spanish holders Sevilla or Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in the final.
