A video of a woman who survived after falling under a speeding train in Mumbai’s Kurla station had her phone’s earphones plugged on and was probably distracted, officials say.

The undated CCTV footage, which has gone viral on social media, shows a woman walking on railway tracks when she suddenly spots a train pacing towards her. It shows people waiting at the platform shouting out as the woman first tries to get away from the train but then is right in the centre of its path. She falls down and the train passes over.

However, as luck would have it, the woman escaped with just minor injuries. She was also reportedly discharged the same day from the hospital.

According to railway police, the woman was unmindful while walking on the track. “She was talking over the phone and did not realise the goods train was approaching,” said Sandeep Mane, SSP GRP, Kurla.

On an average, eight people were killed every day on Mumbai’s railway tracks in 2016, according to statistics obtained through RTI.
