Kanak Satpathy died after a prolonged illness on Friday night, reports said

Following her death, her daughters pleaded with villagers to help them cremate their mother, but to no avail.

After waiting for hours, the daughters placed the body of their mother on a woven cot and started marching towards the cremation ground.

With no wood for the funeral pyre, they dismantled the roof of their home and used it for the cremation.

In August, Dana Majhi from Odisha’s Kalahandi district -- carried his wife’s body for 10km after no ambulance were available for transporting it.
