Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Preventive action, exterments on Pune rural police’s mind to manage troublemakers
In the coming month, a series of actions including externments, preventive detention, arrests and cases under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act will be initiated by the police.
The Pune rural police is geared up for the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April with a series of preventive actions, according to newly appointed special inspector general of Kolhapur range Suhas Wadke.
In the coming month, a series of actions including externments, preventive detention, arrests and cases under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act will be initiated by the police.
People with a history of body offences and crimes during past election periods, including local and assembly elections, will be on the police radar, according to Sandip Patil, superintendent of Pune rural police.
Special IG Wadke was in the city to inspect an all women’s parade on Monday, a day after the model code of conduct was enforced by the Election Commission of India.
“We are geared up. We will ensure that a fair election is conducted,” he said, when asked about security preparations underway in the run-up to the elections. “We will be conducting ‘nakabandi’ and combing operations more frequently in the coming months,” he added.
When asked about the potential misuse of social media and cyber crime during the election period, he said, “We have a cyber cell and they are keeping a watch on troublemakers.”
The rural police SP has received proposals for 111 externments, six cases of MCOCA and 31 proposals of MPDA, Patil said. “We will be processing these proposals in the next month. We have already taken preventive action against 5,600 people under Sections 107 and 110 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC),” SP Patil added.
The special IG also spoke about a drive against bootleggers in his jurisdiction. “We are keeping a watch on places adjoining the river like Daund, Shirur and Jejuri,” he said.
The 48 seats in Maharashtra will go to polls in the first four phases of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections. Seven constituencies in Maharashtra will go to poll on April 11, 10 constituencies will go to poll on April 18, 14 constituencies will go to poll on April 23 and in the fourth phase on April 29, 17 constituencies will go to poll.
