Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav at a farmers’ rally on Saturday said actors who played Rama and Sita in their village’s Ramleela would receive pension if his party returns to power.
“Those villagers who play Ram and Sita in Ramleela will be brought under Samajwadi Pension Scheme,” Yadav said at the rally in Sitapur. “We believe in all gods. They (the BJP government) had brought Ram and Sita from Mumbai in Pushpak Viman (helicopter) in Ayodhya ( for Deepotsava last Diwali).”
Samajwadi Pension Scheme, one of the flagship programmes of the Akhilesh Yadav government, was discontinued by Yogi Adityanath when he came to power last year.
The Sitapur rally, which is seen as the precursor of the Samajwadi Party’s 2019 Lok Sabha polls campaign, saw Yadav reaching the venue in the Mercedes rath, which developed a snag on its launch day for the 2017 state assembly elections.
Besides, on crimes in Mathura, Meerut, Lucknow and, the most recent, Kasganj clash, Yadav said there was no such thing as law and order in the state.
“The government has no control over the crime situation. Criminals have a free run, but all energies were invested in rounding up distressed farmers who threw their rotting potatoes in Lucknow. They caught the farmers, arrested them and put the black hood on their heads as if they had nabbed some terrorists.”
Some farmers threw potatoes outside Vidhan Sabha building and near the chief minister’s residence at Kalidas Marg in Lucknow early this month. In this contest, Yadav had announced the statewide protest against the BJP government at the Centre and the state over the farmers’ issues.
