When it comes to an open world first person shooter franchise, not many games match up to Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise. The first game, developed by Crytek and published by Ubisoft made it to big when it was released in 2004 and since then has spawned various sequels, spin-offs and even a movie.

Back with Far Cry 5, the game that takes players to exotic open world environments, such as Himalayas, Africa and Central Europe, has now made it to the heart of America.

Watch the official announce trailer here:

Here is all we know about the game till now:

Leaving exotic destinations behind, the game brings players to Hope Country, Montana. The protagonist is a Sheriff’s deputy who on arriving in Hope County discovers that the entire area has been taken over by a doomsday cult, The Project at Eden’s Gate. So what do you do? Rally the locals into the Resistance, and find a way to put an end to the cult once and for all.

The game, however, will not lack its usual scenic locales, and will take players across various terrains and towns. Watch all the Hope Country teasers in the compilation here:

After Vaas Montenegro (Far Cry 3) and Pagan Min (Far Cry 4), players of the franchise know well enough, just how crazy the villains can be. Continuing the trend of brilliant larger-than-life antagonists, the game introduces us to The Father, Joseph Seed, the leader of Eden’s Gate. While details about him haven’t been revealed, the trailers give players a good taste of the cult’s extremist ideology and all the mayhem they are capable of. And, that is proof enough that we are in for a treat.

The latest in the series won’t be too far from its previous parts. Players can choose from a wide range of weapons, vehicles, NPCs and animals, and as usual, approach their missions in multiple styles. But that isn’t all, the game will also have a couple of new additions to its overall style with changes in terms of animals, vehicles and your arsenal, that will adhere to the new location and story.

Unlike its previous iterations, this outing will offer you a chance to fully customise your character. You can choose to play as a woman or a man, choose your race, an if rumours are true, even customise your look. Players can also earn XP through various play styles and then use the XP points to grow their skill tree.

When you have to take down an entire cult, you’ll need all the help you can get. Among the people fighting for their territory, Pastor Father Jerome, Pilot Nick Rye, and revolutionary bartender Mary May will be your primary contacts in the game. All three of them have a history with Eden’s Gate, and are more than willing to help you take it down. Watch their character trailers here:

You can choose to play the entire game solo or call a friend in for some two-player co-op support. Yes, you heard it right, you’ll be able to play with a friend for the entirety of the campaign. This is an interesting change from teh previous games which only allowed the mode for a separate campaign or for only specific side missions.

Players can choose from the usual bow, an array of guns, RPGs and explosives. But, there is more, you can find various objects that can be used as melee weapons like hammers, pitchforks, baseball bats. Players can also use the pitchfork as a deadly projectile that can be thrown to impale cultists from afar.

Another new feature in the game will be the introduction of helicopters and airplanes, that you can pilot. This also suggests that the game map will have a larger area to explore. Aerial dogfights, too, will be a big part of the game, and having your trusty resistance pilot Nick Rye by your side might just give you aerial advantage over your enemies. The game will also introduce an array of cars, tractors and other vehicles which are expected to be completely modifiable — paint job, performance and weapons included.

The game is also set to bring hunting back, and will also have other side activities like fishing included this time around. Players can possibly also craft gear from animal parts like previous games.

The Map Editor returns to the series and is expected to provide a larger customisation benefit to the players.

Excited about the game? We might have a lot more coming our way from Hope Country at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this year.
