Mumbai civic body refuses to appoint firm of formerly blacklisted contractor

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) standing committee on Wednesday refused to pass the civic administration’s proposal to appoint a previously blacklisted contractor’s new firm to transport garbage to dumping grounds.

The contractor, whose firm had been proposed for appointment, had been blacklisted by the storm water drains department of BMC more than a year ago. Vishakha Raut, Shiv Sena leader, said, “We have asked the administration why such a firm had been chosen. The blacklisted contractor has filed a petition against BMC.”

The proposal will now be tabled again for consideration in the next standing committee meeting next week.

BMC had floated tenders to transport 650 metric tonnes of garbage per day from the refuse transfer station at Mahalaxmi to the dumping ground at Kanjurmarg, Deonar and Mulund.
