An additional sessions court in Pune on Wednesday awarded capital punishment to a man for killing his wife, mother and two-and-half-year-old daughter four years ago.
Vishwajit Kerba Masalkar, 29, an employee of house-keeping firm had committed the triple murders on October 2012 after the family members came to know about his illicit affair with a girl, said public prosecutor Ujjwala Pawar.
Masalkar, according to police officials, tried to cover up his crime by lodging an FIR in which he stated that unknown robbers tried to break in his house and in the attempt killed wife, mother and daughter.
The convict stabbed his mother Shobha (50) and wife Archana (25) to death while strangulating his daughter Kimaya.
While probing the incident, the police officials came to know about his affair with another girl, leading them establish that Masalkar killed his family members. The convict, a resident of Wanowarie, had also attempted to kill his 75-year-old neighbor, who witnessed the attack.
