Woman’s body found in trunk in Navi Mumbai turns out to be housekeeper’s
Kiran Temba Sherapa, 50, had been missing since April 29
The woman whose body was found at Vashi village off Sion-Panvel highway on Wednesday has been identified. She was Kiran Temba Sherapa, 50, a resident of Turbhe Store.
After the news appeared on television and newspapers, some of her neighbours approached the police on Thursday and identified the body.
Sherapa’s body was found in a metal trunk at an isolated spot. A security guard grew suspicious of the contents of the trunk after it began emanating foul odour and promptly informed the local police.
“The deceased went missing on April 29 and a missing person’s case was registered with the Turbhe police station by her family members. She used to do housekeeping work with some families in the area,” said Kisan Gaikwad, police inspector from Vashi police station.
Ajay Kumar Landge, senior police inspector, said, “We are still investigating the case to find out the culprits who killed her. More details cannot be revealed at this moment.”
The deceased was wearing a black kurta with red and white designs and saffron salwar with white floral design. The police spotted two black bangles with white designs and a steel bracelet on her wrists.
Medical reports suggested Sherapa might have been strangled by a scarf or a similar object around 48 hours ago.
“We suspect some of her family members to be involved in the crime. However, we have not detained anyone till now. We hope to solve the case very soon,” another police officer said.
