The brother of gangster Abhisekh Jha who was shot dead inside a court in Bihar’s East Champaran on Monday, has accused the police of plotting the murder and demanded a high-level probe into the circumstances leading to the incident.
Bal Mukund Jha who deals in second hand cars in neighbouring Samastipur, said on Tuesday there were reasons which pointed the needle of suspicion to the involvement of police in the murder of his brother.
“My brother sustained the gunshot injury above waist and died in next 10 minutes. Medical experts say a man can survive for a couple of hours in such cases,” he claimed. He also alleged that one of the police officers, instead of sympathising with the bereaved family, expressed happiness over the murder.
“There were no traces of chilli on the palm of my brother which further contradicts police statement that he attempted to throw chilli powder into their eyes,” Bal Mukund said.
He, however, did not rule out that the murder could be the handiwork of gang rivalry, but preferred to wait for a proper probe.
“Since this murder has occurred on the court premises, we want an investigation to clear the mystery clouding the minds of common people,” he said.
East Champaran superintendent of police Upendra Kumar Sharma said that Abhishesh Jha was killed by the bullets fired by his associates who tried to secure his release.
“Any amount of the allegations can be levelled against anybody. Police has more important roles. Instead of sympathising with slain gangster’s family or explain away the charges levelled against us, we would rather concentrate on nabbing the perpetrators of the crime on the court premises,” the SP said.
“If the family has any doubt, there are separate wings to lodge their complaint, but certainly not with me or media persons,” he said. The district police chief also asked people not to get carried away by the gimmicks of a gangster’s family and instead cooperate with police in their investigation.
Sikarahana sub divisional police officer Alok Kumar Singh said raids were on to nab the killers. “We are very close to the perpetrator of the crime,” Singh said.
Abhishek Jha who was convicted in the murder of two engineers in 2015, was lodged at Sheohar jail. He was shot on Monday while being produced at the sub-judicial judicial magistrate’s court in connection with a 2006 case.
