‘Don’t take to social media, come to us,’ says Southern Command Chief Lt Gen Soni

Come to us,” General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-IN-C ) Southern Command Chief Lt Gen Dewan Rabindranath Soni told ex-servicemen during the Armed Forces Veterans Day celebration at Bombay Engineering Group (BEG) and Centre, Khadki on Sunday. While addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Soni said that the army was undertaking a course correction in terms of redressing the grievances of ex-servicemen and will ensure that they are given the best service by the concerned authorities.

Lt Gen Soni said, “It is my duty to help you and it is your duty to respect the armed forces as you were, and still are, part of thegreat army. Instead of turning to social media, come to us. Tell us your problems and we will take care of you,” he said.
Lt Gen Soni further added,“ We will never tell you anything wrong and will also ensure that all the promises made are fulfilled. However, you will have to exercise patience as the work will take some time, but it will be surely done.”
Informing that the Indian army chief has announced 2018 as the year of disabled soldiers, Lt Gen Soni said, “We will ensure that they and their families are looked after by us with great respect.”
January 14 is commemorated as Armed Forces Veterans Day as a mark of respect and recognition of the services rendered by Field Marshal KM Cariappa, OBE, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, who retired from service on January 14, 1963.
On the occasion, a wreath laying ceremony was conducted at the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre War Memorial where wreaths were laid by Lieutenant General DR Soni along with other senior most veterans from the three services, settled in Pune. Officers from the civil administration of Pune, including the Agriculture and Banking department, were also present at the occasion.
During the rally, several stalls were also set up by the Army to spread information and extend help in the field of job placements, pension and grievance redressal. A medical camp was also organised where a large number of medical specialists were present. Special medical facilities were also made available to the veterans.
Lunch was also served for all the veterans at the venue after the event. The ‘Veer Naries’ (champion women officers) and disabled veterans were also felicitated on the occasion.
