An income tax department (ITD) employee allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Akurdi on Sunday night, police officials said. The deceased man was identified as Bablu Kumar Chandeshwar Prasad, 32.

Prasad left a suicide note blaming a prolonged illness for taking the drastic decision of hanging himself to death on the ceiling fan in the bedroom of his house. However, his family members have told the police that Prasad's superior at his workplace had yelled at him and abused him a few days ago. The police, however, could not pinpoint what illness the deceased was talking about.

Prasad lived with his parents in the house where he was found dead. Prasad had lost one of his legs to the illness, according to the police.

Incidentally, this is the second incident where an allegation has been levelled against the superior officer of a government department. A senior clerk at the public works department (PWD), Sangeeta Vishnu Jaybhoye, was booked for driving a junior clerk, Ashok Ramesh Kamble,34, to commit suicide last week. The complaint in that matter was filed by the deceased man's wife.

Prasad's death was recorded as an accidental death at Nigdi police station. Police sub-inspector Prakash More of Nigdi police station is investigating the matter. His body was sent to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) hospital for post-mortem.

The police are investigating the claims made in the suicide note.
