Moti Memorial Hockey: Income Tax Pune in shoot-out win over Pune XI

The match was scoreless at the end of regulation time. In the shoot-out, Sumit Pal, Sohil Zafar and Nitin Kumar scored for Income Tax, while for Pune XI, only Parmeshwar Pote managed to hit the nets.

Income Tax Pune defeated Pune XI 3-1, in a penalty shoot-out, to qualify for quarterfinals of the Moti memorial hockey tournament at the Dhyan Chand hockey stadium, Pimpri, on Monday.

The match was scoreless at the end of regulation time. In the shoot-out, Sumit Pal, Sohil Zafar and Nitin Kumar scored for Income Tax, while for Pune XI, only Parmeshwar Pote managed to hit the nets.

During the game both teams had penalty corner chances, but could not convert.

In the 9th minute, Pune XI had their first chance with a penalty corner, where Yogesh Borker moved the ball towards Rise Mujawar, who hit it hard goal-wards, but it was defended very well by Income Tax goalkeeper Naresh Chaudhary.

It missed by an inch again for Pune XI in the 39th minute, when a hard hit from center forward Meet Thankur rebounded off the top of the goalpost.

Income Tax also could not convert a few easy chances thanks to excellent goalkeeping from Pune XI’s Shiv Rasal.

Ajitesh Roy, coach/captain of Income Tax Pune said, We need more chances to play and practice. The team defended very well and players were mentally prepared to win.
