In a shocking incident, a 10-day-old baby girl was snatched from her mother's hand while she was travelling by a shared autorickshaw towards Dapodi on Wednesday around 1.30 pm.

According to the police, Reshma Sheikh, a 26-year-old resident of Dapodi, had brought her 10-day-old child to a private hospital for treatment. The incident occurred when she was returning home after treatment around 1.30 pm. After meeting the doctor, Reshma came out of hospital and hailed a shared auto rickshaw to return home. When the auto reached the Bopodi bridge area, while Reshma was busy taking out money from her bag, an unknown woman who was sitting in the rickshaw snatched Reshma’s child from her thigh and fled. Police was rushed to the spot and a complaint was filed. Police are still trying to find the unknown woman who abducted the baby girl with the help of CCTV footage.

“After our first round of investigation, we are also suspecting the victim as the road she has mentioned in her compliant is a one-way. She cannot get any autorickshaw on that spot and no autorickshaw driver can travel from the wrong side to that spot,” said senior police inspector Laxman Borate. He added that this was just one of the theories and that they are investigating the matter further.
