Phagwara hospital refunds money to victim's family

The treatment fee being charged by the civil hospital, Phagwara, has been refunded to the family of the rape victim.

The treatment fee being charged by the civil hospital, Phagwara, has been refunded to the family of the rape victim.

HT had highlighted the issue on Thursday.

The civil hospital had charged Rs 1,000 as admission fee and Rs 550 for the X-rays. The Jalandhar civil hospital had also charged the victim's parents Rs 1,200 for the CT scan of their daughter. The Jalandhar hospital is yet to refund the money.

Senior medical officer Dr Manohar Lal said he was unaware that the hospital authorities had charged fee from the victim. He said as he came to know of it, he immediately asked the authorities to refund the fee.

He said the family had been provided all services free of cost, including the private room and ambulance service.

Jalandhar civil hospital medical superintendent Dr Kailash Kapoor was not available for comment.
