Police recover kidnapped girl, but panic still remains in city
After a week long search, the Police has finally recovered the three year old girl who was kidnapped from outside her house on February 4. A close friend of her father is alleged to be the kidnapper and has been arrested by the police.
Despite the police recovering the kidnapped child, rumours of a gang in the city who kidnap and sell children has created panic. Police has denied these rumours vehemently.
Addressing a press conference, superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said that they had formed a special team of over 100 personnel who were working round the clock to trace the girl. He said, "During our investigations, we became suspicious of Amandeep Sonu, a friend of the girl's father. He was cooperating in the search operation, but seemed very nervous."
On being questioned, he admitted to having kidnapped the girl and said that he had kept her with his relatives at Anandput Sahib. The relatives were told that the girl's life is in danger and hence she needs to be kept hidden. After his statement, police took him to Anandpur Sahib and recovered the child.
The SSP said that the actual reason behind the kidnapping is still not known, but police is quizzing the accused, who has been arrested and taken in police remand.
The girl was handed over to the parents at a press conference.
