Partition Museum thrown open in Amritsar, CM calls for lessons from ‘sad history’

Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday inaugurated the Partition Museum here in a tribute to millions of people who lost their lives when Pakistan was carved out of India and called for learning lessons from history to ensure such sad events do not occur again. 10-yr-old Chandigarh rape victim told her C-section was surgery to remove stone

The 10-year-old rape victim gave birth to a girl at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, here at 9.22am on Thursday. Both the mother and newborn are in good health.The newborn was shifted to the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU). The newborn is premature, and weighs less than 2.5 kg as the delivery took place at 35 weeks. But she is fine,” said a hospital source. Parents of 10-yr-old rape victim refuse to see face of daughter’s newborn

At 8:50, the 10-year-old rape victim stepped out of private room towards the operation theatre, where she thought she was going to get rid of stones, which were making her stomach fat. At 9:32, she delivered a baby girl. It is learnt that neither the 10-year-old mother nor her parents have seen the face of the newborn, who is admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit. While the situation was quite tense before the operation, the news of operation being successful brought a sense of relief for parents, doctors, members of child welfare committee who are associated with the case from very beginning. CBI court to pronounce verdict in Dera chief Ram Rahim’s case on August 25

A special CBI court on Thursday reserved its judgment for August 25 in the rape trial against Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.The CBI special court, Haryana (Panchkula) reserved its judgment after arguments got over from prosecution as well as from defence side on Thursday. Ram Rahim’s lawyer, SK Garg Narwana, after the hearing, told reporters that Ram Rahim will be present in court on the day of pronouncement of judgment. Read full story here

Man rapes friend’s 9-year-old daughter in Nawanshahr

A nine-year-old daughter of a migrant labourer was raped by her father’s friend when she was returning home from a temple, police said on Thursday. The accused, Raj Kumar, a labourer from Jharkhand, offered the girl a lift on his bicycle when she was returning home after having langar (free meal) at a temple on Janmashtami. Instead of dropping her home, he took her to a field nearby and raped her, the police said. Read full story here
