Rahul Gandhi paid tributes to his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the Veer Bhumi Rajiv Gandhi Memorial in the national capital on his 76th birth anniversary. The Congress leader had earlier posted an emotional message for his father on social media. 'Rajiv Gandhi was a man with a tremendous vision, far ahead of his times. But above all else, he was a compassionate and loving human being. I am incredibly lucky and proud to have him as my father. We miss him today and everyday,' Rahul tweeted. Several Congress leaders also posted tributes to the former Prime Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted his tribute. Rajiv Gandhi became India's Prime Minister at the age of 40 in 1984 after the assassination of his mother Indira Gandhi. He was assassinated during an election rally in Tamil Nadu by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber in 1991. The Congress celebrates 20th August as Sadbhavana Diwas.
