Nepal earthquake: Injured treated outdoors as Kathmandu hospital grapples with rush of victims

A massive 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck east of Pokhara in Nepal on Saturday, causing widespread damage to buildings in the capital Kathmandu and killing hundreds in the country. At the main hospital in Kathmandu, people with broken limbs were rushed in for treatment. There was no official word on the number of injured but witnesses put the figure in the dozens."Seventy-one people have died in Kathmandu, 41 in nearby Bhaktapur and there are reports that many more could be dead in other parts," said home ministry spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Dhakal.He added that two persons have been killed in the Everest Base Camp and 10 others injured. Hundreds of climbers are at present in the base camp to prepare for their climbs next month.
