Samantha, 14, was found “covered in blood” at her ground floor room last week. She had 45 lesions on her face, 150 on her hands and 30 on her feat, according to the report.

The paraplegic girl’s father said her fingertips were bitten off and the surgeons said they can’t repair them. “There was blood coming from her ears. I was terrified she might have had a brain haemorrhage,” he told the local newspaper Courrier-Picard.

Samantha’s father also said she cannot get out of bed and she is less sensitive to pain because of her condition. “She must have felt the rats on her but did not have the presence of mind to call us.”

The family, which has shifted to another house, is suing the landlord for negligence. Reports said the trash bins near their house were overflowing.

Samantha, who has two sisters, was tested for infections after the incident. The test results were negative for rabies.

The incident is rare as rats are usually known to attack corpses, a medical expert told the BBC.
