A day after police arrested two accused for a robbery bid in Model Town, an employee of Airtel Payment Bank has been booked for revealing the information about cash transactions to the accused.

The bank employee has been booked for revealing the information about colleague who was going to deposit cash, and gave the accused an idea to rob him. A hunt is on to arrest the bank employee, Ludhiana police said. (HT FILE)

One of the accused, identified as Gurjot Singh of Shimlapuri, a gym and chicken corner owner, claimed that he indulged in the crime as he was facing losses in business. His aide Tarandeep Singh resides in the same locality.

The employee of Airtel payment bank, identified as Deepu, was Gurjot’s friend.

Sub-inspector Balwinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Model Town police station said Gurjot had taken a loan of ₹13 lakh and invested the amount in a gym and a chicken corner. “However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, he suffered losses and was unable to pay the instalments. Deepu gave an idea to Gurjot and his friend Tarandeep to rob cash from his co-worker Aman. Deepu had also provided the registration number of the vehicle by which Aman was going to the bank for depositing cash,” he added.

“When Aman, along with the driver, reached the bank to deposit the cash, the accused assaulted them with a sharp-edged weapon in an attempt to rob the cash. Aman resisted and nabbed the accused with the help of locals,” the SHO said.

An FIR has been lodged under Sections 379-B (snatching) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused. A hunt is on for Deepu.
