A 32-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her 20-year-old brother at their residence in Greater Noida on Friday night for opposing his drinking habits. The suspect was arrested on Saturday, police said, adding that a countrymade pistol used in the crime was recovered from his possession.

The suspect was identified as Suraj, a native of Hardoi district. Police said that the deceased, Ruchi, was married and living with her parents in Roja Jalalpur village under the Bisrakh police station limits.
“We received information about the incident around 12 midnight on Friday that a woman was shot at by her brother. The complaint was registered by her husband. A police team was sent to the spot and the body was taken into custody. After a post mortem, the body was handed over to the family on Saturday,” said Yogendra Singh, assistant commissioner of police (central Noida).
According to police, Suraj’s sister often used to scold him for his drinking habits. “On Friday night, the suspect came home intoxicated and started puking. Following this, Ruchi scolded the suspect who started arguing with her. Soon, the brother-sister’s argument turned intense, and the suspect, who had a pistol with him, shot his sister dead and fled the home,” said Singh.
On Saturday, the suspect was arrested from Shahberi area of Greater Noida, police said.
“The suspect has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Arms Act,” said Singh.
