We know you’re still reeling from the awesomeness that was the Suicide Squad trailer but Warner Bros. sneaked another little teaser our way on Wednesday. Here’s the first official footage from the upcoming Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot.

The film takes Wonder Woman back to Worl War I. (Warner Bros.)

While we don’t get a lot of footage - the movie has barely begun shooting – what we do get is remarkably good-looking. Like Geoff Johns (consultant for the DC Cinematic Universe) says, Wonder Woman is a hugely popular and iconic character but not a lot of people know her origin story. And that’s what the movie will address. She is a warrior, a princess and by the looks of the footage here, a potential feminist icon.

Chris Pine, who plays her love interest, agrees. “Telling a story like this now is pivotal and important. It’s the story of a very powerful woman.”

The film takes her back to World War I, and the period setting accompanied by stylish slow-mo action looks really good. Another exciting prospect is the return of director Patty Jenkins, who took the movies by storm after directing Charlize Theron to an Oscar back in 2003 with Monster. It says a lot about the industry that a filmmaker as talented as Jenkins hasn’t done another movie since then. This movie could turn out to be really special if Jenkins brings out these themes.

The whole thing (Suicide Squad and this) was part of a special televised event aired on The CW. It was hosted by Geoff Johns and Kevin Smith, longtime nerd and professional fanboy.

Wonder Woman also stars Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, and Lucy Davis. It will arrive in theatres on July 23, 2017. But we will get our first glimpse of the Amazonian Princess in action in the upcoming Batman v Superman.
