Indian National Congress's Shamanur Shivashankarappa got a total of 71,369 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Yashavantha Rao Jadhav secured 55,485 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate J. Amanulla Khan secured 6,020 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 52.8%, 41.0% and 4.5% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Shamanur Shivashankarappa defeated Janata Dal (Secular)'s Karekatte Syed Saifulla by 40,158 votes.
