Bharatiya Janata Party's G Karunakara Reddy won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's M P Ravindra by a margin of 9,647 votes.
The top three candidates split 97.5% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's G Karunakara Reddy got a total of 67,603 votes, while Indian National Congress's M P Ravindra secured 57,956 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate Arasikere N Kotresh grabbed the third spot with 37,685 votes. The top three parties got 40.4%, 34.6% and 22.5% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's M P Ravindra defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's G Karunakarareddy by 8,406 votes.
