Janata Dal (Secular)'s Ashvin Kumar.M won the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Dr. H.C.Mahadevappa by a margin of 28,478 votes.
The top two candidates split 90.7% of votes between them. Janata Dal (Secular)'s Ashvin Kumar.M got a total of 83,929 votes, while Indian National Congress's Dr. H.C.Mahadevappa secured 55,451 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate S. Shankar secured 11,812 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 54.6%, 36.1% and 7.7% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa defeated Janata Dal (Secular)'s M.C.Sundareshan by 323 votes.
