In the Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Jamnagar Rural constituency had 27 candidates for assembly seat contention. Jamnagar Rural was one of 77 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Dharaviya Vallabhbhai Veljibhai winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Patel Raghavjibhai Hansarajbhai by a margin of just 6,397 votes.
The top two candidates split 92.2% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Dharaviya Vallabhbhai Veljibhai got a total of 70,750 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Patel Raghavjibhai Hansarajbhai secured 64,353 votes. Independent candidate Gori Ali Mamadbhai secured 2,423 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 48.3%, 43.9% and 1.7% respectively.
In Gujarat Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Raghavji Hansraj Patel defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's Faldu Ranchhodbhai Chanabhai by 3,304 votes.
