In the Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Gandhinagar North constituency had 12 candidates for assembly seat contention. Gandhinagar North was one of 77 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Dr. C. J. Chavda winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Ashokkumar Ranchhodbhai Patel by a margin of just 5,736 votes.
The top two candidates split 96.9% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Dr. C. J. Chavda got a total of 80,142 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Ashokkumar Ranchhodbhai Patel secured 74,406 votes. Independent candidate Raj Prajapati secured 1,128 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 50.2%, 46.6% and 0.7% respectively.
In Gujarat Assembly election 2012, Bharatiya Janata Party's Patel Ashokkumar Ranchhodbhai beat Indian National Congress's Patel Sureshkumar Chaturdas by 4,225 votes.
