In 2017, 13 candidates were competing for Karanj assembly constituency seat. Karanj was one of 99 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was a one way contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Ghoghari Pravinbhai Manjibhai comfortably winning the election defeating Indian National Congress's Bhumbhaliya Bhaveshbhai Govindbhai (ADVOCATE) by a huge margin of 35,598 votes.
The top two candidates split 91.4% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Ghoghari Pravinbhai Manjibhai got a total of 58,673 votes, while Indian National Congress's Bhumbhaliya Bhaveshbhai Govindbhai (ADVOCATE) secured 23,075 votes. Independent candidate Bhimjibhai V.Patel (BUDHANA) secured 4,464 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 65.6%, 25.8% and 5.0% respectively.
In Gujarat Assembly election 2012, Bharatiya Janata Party's Kachhadiya Janakbhai Manjibhai outperformed Indian National Congress's Zalavadiya Jaysukhbhai Devchandbhai by 49,439 votes.
