In the Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Rajkot West constituency had 15 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 99 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Rajkot West was one of them. The election for Rajkot West seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janata Party's Vijay Rupani defeating Indian National Congress's Indranil Rajguru by a huge margin of 53,755 votes.
98.1% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Vijay Rupani got a total of 1,31,586 votes, while Indian National Congress's Indranil Rajguru got 77,831 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Parmar Vijaybhai Somabhai grabbed 1,198 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 61.6%, 36.4% and 0.6% respectively.
In Gujarat Assembly election 2012, Bharatiya Janata Party's Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala outperformed Indian National Congress's Atul Rasikbhai Rajani by 24,978 votes.
