United States secretary of state John Kerry joked at the IIT-Delhi campus on Wednesday morning about heavy showers in the Capital that had flooded roads and delayed his lecture by an hour.
“Don’t know how you all got here. You must’ve needed boats to get here,” Kerry told the gathering at the south Delhi institute.
Journalists travelling with the US leader tweeted photos of inundated roads. Kerry’s scheduled trip to a number of religious places was cancelled due to the rain.
On his arrival in Delhi on Monday, Kerry was stuck in a rain-induced traffic snarl for more than an hour.
Wednesday’s rainfall inundated vast swathes of the national capital region and brought back memories of a similar deluge last month when thousands of commuters were stuck for 12 hours in miles-long snarls.
The downpour, coupled with strong winds and lightening for more than four hours in the morning, flooded roads across southern and central Delhi with hundreds of people stranded at bus stops and Metro stations.
