On Friday afternoon, a new graffiti became part of the hustle bustle of Connaught Place. High-rise buildings and colourful profiles featured in a work of art that was painted outside the American Centre by Delhi-based artist Ompal Sansanwal.

“It’s my way of expressing what this city means to me,” says the artist, who made the graffiti at an event held to mark the premiere of the film Bomb-It (about graffiti art).
Painting in Delhi is not new to Sansanwal. In the past, he has been invited to make a mural at a temple in Katwaria Sarai and some schools too. On Sunday, we caught up with the artist as he painted a wall in Vasant Kunj.
Talking about the fact that government considers unsolicited public graffiti illegal, Sansanwal says, “To an extent, it is correct. There must be some control or people will deface even monuments.”
