A 15-year-old boy of Khaniyadana block of Shivpuri district succumbed to dengue, making it the first casualty due to dengue of this season from the district on Sunday.
The deceased’s kin said he was brought to Gwalior for treatment from Shivpuri a week ago. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital but was shifted to a government hospital with deteriorating health. He was initially treated for about 15 days in his block.
Chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Shivpuri Dr Suresh Bhadkaria confirmed one death due to dengue in the district. He added that arrangements have been made to control breeding of mosquitoes. He said an isolation ward at district hospital has been also created.
Shivpuri is the district worst affected by dengue, with around 122 cases being reported since Saturday. The situation is deteriorating as 22 patients were tested positive for dengue on Friday and 20 on Saturday.
More than 40 health department teams are working in the district to control breeding of mosquitoes.
A team of doctors in association with government agencies are conducting area-wise surveys with preventive measures like fogging and public awareness.
More than 300 cases of dengue have been reported from across the state till now.
Officials said more than 700 blood samples of dengue suspected patients have been tested this season out of them 169 were found positive. These 169 patients include 34 cases from Gwalior and rest 135 cases from Shivpuri, Bhind, Morena and Datia districts.
