Father, son drown in canal while taking selfie in MP

Two persons including a middle-aged man and his minor son drowned in a canal while the latter was taking selfie in front of a canal in Balaghat district on Saturday.

Two persons including a middle-aged man and his minor son drowned in a canal while the latter was taking selfie in front of a canal in Balaghat district on Saturday.

The incident took place at Amoli village in Balaghat. The deceased were identified as Sanjay Dubey, 42 and his son Abhi Dubey, 10.

According to police, Abhi along with his elder brother Aman Dubey, 13, was taking selfie at a canal which is situated in front of their house.

Abhi accidentally lost his balance and fell into the canal. Aman immediately jumped into the water to rescue Abhi. Later, their father rushed to save them but he got drowned.

Sub inspector (SI) Nathu Singh Randha said that Sanjay Dubey, who was standing in front of his house, saw his sons falling into the canal and he also jumped into the canal to save them but he lost his life.

He further said that the body of Sanjay had been fished out while efforts were on to find out the body of his younger son, Abhi. The elder son, Aman was, however, saved.

When he saw three people drowning in the canal, he jumped into the water and rescued Aman, said police sources. He also informed the local villagers, who called up the police.
