A 20-year old youth raped and murdered his five-year-old cousin and threw her body in a septic tank in a village in Jabalpur district, police said on Monday. The accused has been arrested.
Sub-divisional officer (police), Patan, Bhavna Maravi, said a man complained on Monday morning that his five-year-old daughter was missing and he was last seen with her cousin (son of his elder brother). Police questioned the cousin on suspicion and he confessed to raping and killing his five-year old cousin.
Initially he said that he had raped her by the riverside and thrown her body into a river flowing near the village. However, when blood was found in his house, he confessed that he had raped his cousin in the house and when she started screaming for help, he strangled her to death and threw her body into the septic tank recently dug for toilets constructed under the Swacch Bharat Mission.
The accused has been booked for rape and murder under Indian Penal Code and also under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
