Police officers have acted appropriately in the encounter of eight SIMI undertrials, IPS Association of Madhya Pradesh said on Friday, “condemning all the allegations and debates” over the incident.

Association president Pawan Jain said people shouldn’t show sympathy towards the alleged SIMI men, who escaped from Bhopal Central Jail by killing a warder on Monday.

“More than 500 police personnel had launched a search operation forgetting the Diwali celebrations. The policemen made the villagers aware about the jailbreak and the accused,” said Jain who is additional director general of police (planning).

After receiving a tip-off on the location of the undertrials, the police reached the spot in 15 minutes and retaliated.

“Police personnel were not aware of what kind of arms the the SIMI men had. The undertrials attacked first and then police personnel started firing in return. Things are crystal clear,” he said.

Those who have no idea about the ground situation shouldn’t give judgment. By questioning the act of police, people are insulting martyrdom of policemen, said Jain.

Police officers feel that despite working hard and serving people round the clock, they are treated as scapegoat in every incident that affects their morale of police personnel.

Instead of paying homage to Ramashankar Yadav who was killed by the undertrials before the jailbreak, people are looking more concerned about the SIMI men.

“We are very upset with the debate. Let investigative agencies, human rights commission and legal agencies give judgment over it, people should at least wait for the judgment,” he said.
